Profile

Wasantha Kumara graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 1997. He was awarded best student in Building and Structural Engineering at the University of Moratuwa in 1997. After graduation, he was recruited as an assistant lecturer for the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Moratuwa . He enrolled in the master's program at the University of South Florida in August 1999. He earned a graduate research assistantship to complete his studies. He graduated with a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering in Spring 2001.He was awarded the Georgia Brosch memorial scholarship for outstanding scholarship and service by the Center for Urban Transportation Research at the University of South Florida. He was selected as student of the Year by the American Society of Highway Engineers at the Engineers Week Banquet held in St. Petersburg in 2001.

He enrolled in the Ph.D. program in the Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering at the University of Florida (UF) in August, 2001 to continue his studies on pavement materials. He earned a graduate research assistantship to complete his studies at UF. He graduated with a Ph.D degree in Spring 2005.

He is the Director Undergraduate Studies of Faculty of Engineering and the coordinator of the Post Graduate Diploma/MSc. courses in Transportation and Highway & Traffic Engineering at the University of Moratuwa. He is the coordinator of the Post Graduate Diploma/MSc. courses in Transportation and Highway & Traffic Engineering at the University of Moratuwa . He has conducted number of training program /short courses on Highway Engineering for the industry. He is the founder member of the Highway Engineering Society of Sri Lanka and the first secretary. He is an expert on Highway Engineering.
